Harrold David Harrison, 94 from Nashville, died peacefully on July 11, 2019 and is now rejoicing with his wife in his new heavenly home. Harrold was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma, on February 27, 1925 to the late Eugene and Mable (Smith) Harrison. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 71 years Lauretta, six brothers and one sister. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn Smith of Nashville, sons David (Eileen) of Lincoln Park, MI, Paul (Diane) of Huntsville, AL, and Jeff (Sallie) of Prague, OK, grandchildren Carrie, Willis, Monica, Andrew, Adam, Ashley, Justin and William Harrison, great grandchildren Anneliese Evans, Charlie, Lucy and Matthew Harrison and Gabriel McKenzie, three sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Harrold received his BA from Welch College and MA from Middle Tennessee State University. After several years in the Ministry as a pastor in Free Will Baptist Churches, he worked for the National Sunday School Department, Randall House Publishers and Welch College.
In his later years, his hobby was to refurbish old bicycles, this brought him many hours of enjoyment.
Harrold served his country during WWll in the United States Navy and never forgot those years and his experiences in the Pacific aboard the battleship U.S.S. Maryland. His war stories were fascinating and full of detail.
To know Harrold or to just meet him was to know he was a Christian. He lived and practiced his faith daily with joy and gratitude and made a positive difference in the lives of so many.
His family is grateful to the medical staff at Vanderbilt Hospital and Alive Hospice and to Harrold’s many friends for their loving care and compassion. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Welch College.
Harrold Harrison’s life will be celebrated in a service at Cross Timbers Free Will Baptist Church, 210 Cross Timbers Dr. Nashville, TN 37221, Sunday July 14, 2019 at 3:00 pm. Visitation with family will be from 2:00 until time of service. Harrold will be interned with Military Honors at the Middle TN Veterans Cemetery in Pegram TN on Wednesday July 17, 2019 at 11:00 am.
