Bettye Jean Smith

Bettye Jean Smith, 79 of Ashland City, passed from this life on Saturday December 8, 2018. Bettye was born on February 27^th, 1939 in Nashville, TN to parents, the late Tifford and Ona Mai (Graham) Wheeler. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph Charles Smith, Sr. and sister Jeanette Cantrell.

Her life experiences as a mother and housewife prepared her a career as a counselor at Park Center in Nashville, a job she enjoyed immensely until her health prevented her from continuing. She was a devoted mother and wife. She was a member of the Lula Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed family, friends, traveling and playing Texas Hold-um.

She is survived by her sisters Joyce Gladdish and Margaret (Buster) Schutt; children Joseph Charles (Willerdean) Smith, Jr, Raymond Tifford (Scarlett) Smith, Yvonne Jean (Jimmy) Wilson, grandchildren Zachary Wilson, Levi Wilson, Spencer (Stacie) McAllister, Ian McAllister, Tiffany Smith, Clint Wayman, Christy (Timmy) Swaw, great grandchildren; Alliana, Jackson, Carter, Payton, Adrian, Daniel, Madison, Jennifer and Elizabeth. Great-great grandchildren Kolton and Alaya.

Visitation for Bettye Smith will be at the Boyd Funeral Home, 101 Elizabeth St. Ashland City, TN 37015 on Monday December 10^th from 4 till 7:00 pm and on Tuesday from 11 am until time of Celebration of Life at 12:00 noon with Bro. Kirby officiating. Serving as pall bearers are Zachary Wilson, Levi Wilson, Spencer McAllister, Tim Swaw, Lance Cantrell and Charles Cantrell. Burial will follow at the Neptune-Smith Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
